The Bristol Eastern girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion, 43-42, over Berlin on Tuesday night at Berlin High School.
The Lancers improved to 1-2 while the Redcoats fell to 2-3. Eastern got some key defense from Janessa Gonzalez and a big foul shot from Emily Piendak down the stretch to clinch the victory. Ciara Collins led the Lancers with 21 points while Gonzalez and Taigan Parent added eight points apiece.
Eastern, which hadn’t played since a tough 63-57 overtime loss at Windsor on Dec. 17, needed a win and got it. The Lancers are scheduled for another road game at East Hartford on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. The next Eastern home game is slated for Jan. 11 against East Catholic, also at 6:45 p.m.
