The Bristol Central baseball team has been tough to score upon this season, and that trend continued against city rival Bristol Eastern on Friday night at Muzzy Field.
Left-hander Nate Pirog worked quickly and effectively through six innings, and the offense gave him plenty of support in a 10-0 win. The Rams improved to 12-0 while the Lancers fell to 3-8.
Pirog tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10. On offense, Mike Allan drove in two runs while Joe Gratta, Anthony Santilli, Rocco Spirito, Aiden Lopez and Jack Bellantuono added an RBI apiece. It was Bellantuono’s RBI single in the sixth that gave Central its mercy rule margin.
There was some excitement generated by the ceremonial first pitch. It was thrown out by native son and UConn national champion Donovan Clingan. Clingan, who was a solid baseball player in his own right, tossed a strike to Ryan Ring in front of a bunch of Bristol Little League players.
