Bristol Eastern hoops teams both undefeated

The Bristol Eastern girls and boys basketball teams are both off to great starts this season.

Neither version of the Lancers has lost a game so far this season. Both Eastern squads beat Platt-Meriden on Thursday night. The girls improved to 4-0 while the boys raised their record to 3-0.

The Eastern girls blasted Platt, 47-13, at home. The Lancers created turnovers with their pressure defense, and they found easy baskets on offense with unselfish ball movement.

Eastern held Platt scoreless, 14-0, in the first quarter and led, 27-3, at halftime. The lead bulged to 40-8 after three quarters.

The Eastern boys ran to a 60-49 win in Meriden. Lukas Sward had a career night in both points (27) and rebounds (10), according to Michael Letendre of The Bristol Edition. Brayden Dauphinais and Daveyn Tate each scored eight points to supplement Sward’s big night. Eastern led, 14-10, after one quarter, but saw the advantage trimmed to 24-22 by halftime. Sward and Nicholas Damato had six points each in the opening half.

Eastern hit the boards hard in the third quarter and outscored Platt, 20-10, for a 44-32 lead. Sward scored 21 of his points in the second half as the Lancers took control of the game.
