Wednesday’s state roundup: Eastern’s volleyball season ends in semifinal loss

A strong season for the Bristol Eastern girls volleyball team that included a CCC tournament championship ended on Wednesday night.

It ended in a CCC gym, Northwest Catholic, and it came against Simsbury, the team Eastern beat in the CCC final. This time around, the No. 11 Trojans defeated the No. 10 Lancers, 3-0. The set scores were 28-26, 25-20, 25-15. Eastern’s season ended with a record of 21-6.

Hannah Webber had 17 kills and two aces; Abby Jones tallied 18 assists and one ace; and Alex Shorette chipped in three aces and three assists. It was the final match in a Lancer uniform for Webber, Jones and Shorette.

GIRLS SWIMMING

St. Paul competed in the Class S championship meet and finished 14th with 127 points. That was out of the 24 schools that competed in the event, held at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

Senior Amelia Badzioch finished 11th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.77) and 12th in the 500 freestyle (5:39.80). The St. Paul 200 freestyle relay of sophomore Bryndle Knoll, senior Abigail MacAllister, freshman Adelyn Ouellette and Badzioch took 10th place (1:53.61).
