HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Rogers makes honor roll after big week

Former Crosby standout Tyshon Rogers continued his scoring ways for Post University, and he earned his way to the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference’s weekly honor roll for his efforts.

Rogers, a junior transfer, averaged 21.5 points in two games, but the majority of those points came in a high-paced 110-104 loss to Wilmington on Alumni Day at the Drubner Center on Jan. 26. Rogers tallied 33 points in 42 minutes of action, including 24 in an explosive second half. He shot 13-of-25 from the floor, including 5-of-12 on three-point attempts. Rogers also had 12 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Rogers made 9-of-16 shots during his 24-point second half, including 4-of-8 on 3-pointers. He also had five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Rogers didn’t score in overtime but assisted on both Post baskets.

Damian Grant, Albertus Magnus basketball

The former Wilby standout has been looking for more consistency in his offensive game, and he has found some in the last seven contests.

Grant, a junior, has scored in double figures in four of the last seven games and reached at least eight points in six of seven. The high mark during that stretch, and a season-high, was 25 points in a 104-85 loss to Saint Joseph’s of Maine on Jan. 10. Grant was a terrific 10-of-13 from the field in that game.

Where Grant has been strong for the Falcons is on the backboards. He has played in 16 games and started all 16. Grant averages 19.3 minutes per game, but during that time, he grabs 5.4 rebounds. The 5.4 rebounds puts Grant second on the team behind Andrew Rice, who averages 5.9. Rice has played in 10 games with two starts this season.

Grant is shooting 50.4 percent from the floor this season, which is second to Rice’s 51.9. Albertus Magnus is 11-7 on the season.

Chris LeBeau, SCSU indoor track and field

This former Bristol Eastern standout is used to running against good competition, and he did well for the Owls at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University on Jan. 26.

LeBeau ran in the 3000 meters and finished 21st out of 110 competitors with a time of 8:22.15. The John Thomas Terrier Classic saw familiar SCSU foes from the Northeast-10 Conference like Franklin Pierce, Bentley, Stonehill and Merrimack, but the Owls also faced Division I opponents. They were the hosts Boston University, along with Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Brown and Dartmouth.

LeBeau is a sophomore at SCSU.

Drew Dantino, SCSU swimming and diving

This former Sacred Heart High School standout was part of two second place finishes for the Owls at Marist on Jan. 19.

Dantino helped the SCSU 200-yard medley relay finish second with a time of 1:38.75. Dantino swam the second leg of the relay, which included Tyler Castellone (first leg), Bailey Peters (third leg) and Leo LaPorte (final leg). Individually, Dantino finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.04.

When SCSU honored Dantino and his fellow seniors on Jan. 18 at the Hutchinson Natatorium, Dantino was able to pick up a win. He finished first in 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.97. Dantino also competed in the 400 freestyle relay, along with Even Bombery, Zachary Fell and Scott Moore. The quartet finished the relay with a time of 3:25.95.

Nicole White, SCSU indoor track and field

This former Sacred Heart High School runner competed in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, and she put up a solid performance.

White finished seventh out of 38 competitors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8:16. As noted in the LeBeau post above, the John Thomas Terrier Classic saw familiar SCSU foes from the Northeast-10 Conference like Franklin Pierce, Bentley, Stonehill and Merrimack, but the Owls also faced Division I opponents. They were the hosts Boston University, along with Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Brown and Dartmouth.

White is a junior at SCSU.
