Thursday’s football roundup: Holy Cross claims key victory

The Holy Cross football team picked up a big win, 35-6, over Seymour on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Crusaders improved to 7-2 and are fourth in the Class S football playoff point rankings. They likely secured a playoff berth with the win, according to a story by Mark Jaffee of the Republican-American. Holy Cross will play Wolcott (3-5) on Thanksgiving morning at Municipal Stadium. A victory should wrap up a home playoff game for the Crusaders.

Tom Ligi ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns. Drew Caouette connected with Mahkai Wilson for a 26-yard touchdown. On defense, Caiden Charette snagged an interception while Roehn Maldonado recovered a fumble.

WCA 38, St. Paul 8: The Spartans watched Jordan Williams return the opening kickoff for a touchdown as the visitors broke their three-game losing streak.

WCA (4-5) got a pair of rushing touchdowns from D’Vonte Lane, a rushing touchdown from Carlos Calle, and a Dylan Rossi field goal. St. Paul (2-7) got its touchdown on a run by Ryan Kilpatrick. The Spartans close their regular season against Wilby (1-8) while the Falcons do so against Oxford.

Naugatuck 37, Crosby 14: The Bulldogs (4-5) got rushing touchdowns from Michael Scott and Mikhail Scott, along with a two-point pass from Tanner Leo to Jeffery Burke. Burke also intercepted a pass.

Crosby faces Kennedy (2-7) on Thanksgiving morning in the regular season finale.
