STATE TOURNEY ROUNDUP: Five area schools win baseball and softball games

Five area schools were victorious in both baseball and softball on Tuesday.
Those schools were Bristol Eastern, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, St. Paul and Wolcott all won two games. Here’s a little bit about each school:

Bristol Eastern
Baseball won 12-6 over Fitch in Groton in a Class L first round game. Jagger Duquette pitched six strong innings, and the offense was led by Noah Hickey, Matt D’Amato and Mac Goulet.
Softball won 7-2 over Manchester at home in Class LL. Erin Girard threw a complete game, and the offense was paced by Taylor Keegan, Lyzah Corliss and Alyssa Hackling.

Holy Cross
Baseball won 8-1 over Morgan in Class S. Austin Brown pitched a complete game, and the Crusaders got offensive contributions from Will Greene, Tim Zupkus, Fran Phelan, Jr., Corey Fappiano and John Greene.
Softball claimed a 15-0 victory over East Windsor in five innings in Class S. Nicole Strielkauskas pitched all five innings. Offensively, Hannah Brown, Allie Brown, Val Nobrega and Jenna Mowad all had big contributions.

Sacred Heart
Baseball used the long ball to claim a 6-5 road win over Canton in Class S. Noah Knappe and Jimmy Edwards each went deep for the Hearts. Edwards picked up the win on the mound, and Hector Alejandro had the save.
Softball hammered Vinal Tech 17-0 in five innings at Joan Joyce Field in Class S. Isabella Hescock, Erin Keeley, Victoria Turrell and Kayleigh O’Donnell had big days on offense, and Madison Gendron pitched all five innings.

St. Paul
Baseball smacked Housatonic 14-0 at home in Class S. Ethan Rembish, Dylan Gagnon and Joe Persechino combined on a two-hitter on the mound. Ryan Greene and Julian Thayer homered, and the Falcons also had solid days from Josh Cofrancesco and Nick Morrell.
Softball held off Windsor Locks 4-3 in Class S. Cari Marchak, Katelynn Oullette, Jess Persechino and Lindsey O’Bright pushed the offense. Abby Poirot threw a complete game.

Wolcott
Baseball edged Ansonia 2-1 at home in Class M. Jack Drewry went the first 6 2/3 innings for the win, and Dane Hassan claimed the save. Drewry also had a sacrifice fly. Nick Longo, Tino Ciarlo and Ethan Gillotti contributed to the offensive effort.
Softball took down Rocky Hill 8-3 in Class M. Marissa Morales, Kaitlyn Cosmos, Nicole Antonowicz and Alexis Boyce all had good evenings at the plate for the Eagles. Antonowicz was the winning pitcher.
