Kennedy freshman Aoife Devaney has had a heck of a season playing golf. She practiced with with Sacred Heart in its final season competing in the sport while competing as a team of one, and she took advantage of the opportunity presented to her.
On Saturday, Devaney just missed out on finishing in the top 10 at the girls golf state open.
Devaney shot an 88 and finished 11th at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme. Devaney was one shot off a three-way tie for eighth and a score of 87. Not bad for a freshman. Not bad for the first time in the state open. Not bad at all.
Devaney had eight pars, including her last four holes. She birdied the par-3 13th hole, which measured 145 yards. Devaney picked up pars on the second, fifth, seventh, 11th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes. She finished with four bogies.
Laniah Moffett, a freshman from Crosby who played with Sacred Heart, finished 18th with a score of 92. St. Paul junior Erin Downes finished 20th with a 94.
Boys state open
St. Paul sophomore Matt Downes tied for 19th with a score of 78.
