TRACK AND FIELD: Whitten, Hickey, Mickle, Mbaya win state championships

Bristol Central boasted a boys state champion and a girls state champion when the Class L outdoor track and field meet concluded on Tuesday at Middletown High School.
Senior Shy-Ann Whitten claimed gold in the high jump at five feet, two inches. Whitten also took second in the triple jump. Senior Dathan Hickey won gold in the long jump at 22 feet, 6 3/4 inches.
Kennedy senior Andriska Mickle won gold in the shot put at 34 feet, 3 1/4 inches. She was second in the javelin at 115-11 and third in the discus at 101-1.
Crosby senior Bernardo Mbaya took gold in the discus at 158 feet and one inch.
Bristol Central finished third as a team in the boys meet and seventh in the girls meet. For the boys, Hickey was second in the long jump. Galen Hickey was second in the triple jump and Nigel West was third in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100. Hunter Peterson took third in the high jump. The Ram 4×100 relay of Pat Kjornrattanawanich, Dathan Hickey, David Bowes and West claimed third. For the girls, Kaiya Alexander was second in the shot put, Abby Calfe was third in the triple jump, and Adalia Malick took fourth in the 400.
