Outside of St. Paul girls soccer, it was a tough day for area state tournament teams.
The Holy Cross girls soccer and girls volleyball teams were eliminated from Class S contention, and Bristol Eastern girls soccer was ousted from Class L.
Here’s what happened:
Class S Girls Soccer
No. 7 Coventry 2, No. 10 Holy Cross 1
The Crusaders battled on the road but couldn’t get past the Patriots in Coventry.
Holy Cross saw its season end with a record of 13-5-3. It was the final match for seniors Julia Sheetz, Michelina Gagliardi, Hayley Gilmore, Katherine Flaherty, Meghan Villano and Emma Gargano.
Glass S Girls Volleyball
No. 3 Hale Ray 3, No. 14 Holy Cross 1
The Crusaders won the first set on the road, but couldn’t keep the momentum up in a loss to the Little Noises in Moodus.
The set scores were 22-25, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-8. Holy Cross saw its season come to a close with a record of 15-9. It was the final match for seniors Idalis Miranda and Gabby Goldman.
Class L Girls Soccer
No. 13 Joel Barlow 6, No. 20 Bristol Eastern
After being delayed because of a placement error, the Lancers lost in Redding.
Leah Policarpio scored the lone goal on an assist from Kailey Laprise. The good news for Bristol Eastern is that Laprise is a sophomore and Policarpio is just a freshman.
The Lancers saw their season end with a record of 7-9-1. It was the final match for Eastern seniors Mikayla Lewandoski, Emily Stadnicki, Miya Laprise, Mallory Crisafulli and Emily Rivoira.
DiChello 10th in Class L Diving
Bristol Eastern’s Zoe DiChello took 10th place in the Class L Diving Championships held at Middletown High School. Emily Mulcunry was 17th.
