The Sacred Heart girls basketball team has won its first four games of the season, including Monday night’s 75-52 victory over Seymour at Alumni Hall.
The Hearts have knocked off Naugatuck (59-49), Watertown (70-41), Derby (51-21) and Seymour thus far. It’s not just senior guard Aamya Rivera and junior guard Mikayla Mobley who have led the way.
In Monday night’s win over Seymour, sophomore Brooke Ferrare showed what she can do. Ferrare knocked down a 3-pointer in the first quarter to get Sacred Heart to within a point, 12-11. Ferrare made a foul shot with 2:04 to go in the quarter to put the Hearts ahead for good, 13-12. Ferrare then assisted on points 1,000 and 1,001 for Rivera with 1:45 left in the quarter. Ferrare fed Rivera on a fast break layup. Ferrare finished with nine points.
Sophomore Emily Ronalter was tough inside on the way to 12 points. Senior Paige Carroll knocked down a trio of 3-pointers on her way to 11 points while junior Shera Tripp tallied eight points. Fellow sophomore Allene Daniels recorded seven points, including a 3-pointer, and showed an ability to block shots.
Rivera led all scorers with 21 points, and Mobley had eight assists to go along with her five points.
The balanced effort was a strong one from Sacred Heart, and it helped keep the Hearts undefeated.
