Waterbury Career Academy baseball opened the 2019 season in style with a 17-0 win in five innings over Wolcott Tech on Monday at Washington Park.
Spartan hurlers Tino Toucet and Andrew Petro combined on a no-hitter that included 11 total strikeouts. Toucet pitched the first inning and had two strikeouts to go along with one walk. Petro threw the next four innings, struck out nine, and walked one.
On offense, WCA scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Toucet, Daniel Petro, Jonathan Castro and Jacob Torres each had two hits for the Spartans, who tallied 15 for the game. Will Carrillo drove in three runs and scored three runs. Torres (double), Toucet, Dan Petro, Andrew Petro and Mike Matta (double) each scored two runs.
