Today is the day for Holy Cross softball and St. Paul baseball.
The Crusaders and Falcons will each try to capture a Class S state championship.
Holy Cross, the top seed in Class S softball, faces No. 6 Notre Dame-Fairfield at 1 p.m. at DeLuca Field in Stratford. Holy Cross is playing for its second straight championship and third overall in program history. Holy Cross is 2-2 all-time in title games while ND is 0-2.
Later in the afternoon at 3:30, No. 4 St. Paul plays for the Class S baseball title against No. 3 Morgan. This is St. Paul’s fifth appearance in the championship game, but the first since 1976. The Falcons seek their first title since 1972. St. Paul appeared in four championship games in the 1970s, winning the ultimate prize in 1971 and 1972. Morgan takes its third shot at winning the program’s first state championship. The Huskies lost the 2015 Class S game to Northwest Catholic.
