Bristol Eastern softball wins blowout opener, but big games loom on horizon

Bristol Eastern softball began the season with a resounding 17-2 win in six innings over NW Catholic on Monday at Bristol Eastern High School.

The Lancers pounded out 19 hits in the victory, led by multi-hit days from Taylor Keegan, Lyzah Corliss, Paige McLaughlin, Zoe Lowe, Erin Girard and Riley Giblin. Girard picked up the win in the circle.

Eastern has aspirations to be a top team this season, and to be the best, you have to beat the best. The Lancers will take two cracks at Class LL powerhouses in their third and fourth games of the season.

After a road game at Plainville on Wednesday, Eastern returns home to host Amity Regional on Friday at 4 p.m. The Spartans are the defending Class LL state champions and have won six titles overall.

When next Monday comes around, Southington arrives at the diamond on King Street for another showdown. The Lady Knights made the Class LL state semifinal round last year, and they have 17 championships to their credit. The Eastern-Southington game is scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.
