The first full day of the high school fall sports season has arrived, and there won’t be any excessive heat getting in the way (Thank God!)
It’s a busy Friday, both in the afternoon and at night in the area. Here’s a look at what’s happening:
Football
Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern will each open the season at home at 6 p.m. The Rams take on Hartford Public while the Lancers host E.O. Smith. Wolcott takes on Naugatuck at home at 6 p.m. while WCA faces a stiff challenge against perennial NVL stalwart Ansonia at Ray Snyder Sr. Field at 7.
Girls soccer
Holy Cross and St. Paul get reacquainted with each other at 4 p.m. in Bristol. This is a matchup of last year’s NVL tournament final, which was won by the Falcons. It’s one heck of a matchup for Day 1.
Bristol Central opens at home against Plainville at 3:45 p.m. The brand new co-op of Sacred Heart and Kaynor Tech plays host to Woodland at Montoe Park at 3:45.
Boys soccer
Crosby and Wilby start the season off with a Brass City battle at 3:30 p.m. at Wilby. Sacred Heart goes to Woodland for 3:45, and Bristol Central begins its season at Plainville at 3:45. WCA hosts Naugatuck at 4 at Hamilton Park, and the boys’ version of St. Paul and Holy Cross kicks off at 4 at Holy Cross.
Girls volleyball
Kaynor Tech will be on the road at Vinal Tech at 5:15 p.m. Kennedy hosts perennial NVL and state contender Seymour at 5:30. St. Paul goes to Watertown for a 6 o’clock match, and Holy Cross entertains Torrington at 6. WCA is at Ansonia for a 6 o’clock match.
Cross country
Bristol Eastern participates in the Blue Dragon Invitational at Veterans Park in Middletown.
