Bristol Post 2 is celebrating 90 years of American Legion baseball in the Mum City in 2018, and the senior team is off to a terrific start.
Bristol improved to 3-0 on Monday with a 3-0 non-zone road win over Windsor Locks. Jake Violette went the first four innings, struck out four and gave up just two hits to earn the victory. Zach Marquis and Alec DiLoreto had RBI singles in a three-run top of the first inning for Bristol. Cory Fradette led Bristol with two hits. DiLoreto, Ethan Ryan and Kenneth Knox, Jr. each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Bristol opened the 2018 Senior Legion season with an 11-2 thumping of Torrington Post 38 on June 8 at Fuessenich Park. Bristol scored once in the top of the first inning, then erupted for seven runs in the second. Zach Marquis gave up two runs (one earned) over five innings and struck out five in a 79-pitch effort. Knox threw the last two innings for Bristol.
Bristol won a 4-2 nine-inning game over Tri-County in its first game at Muzzy Field on June 9. Stephen Warkoski, Alex Balfour and Ryan combined to give up four hits and struck out 11. Warkoski worked the first four innings for the win, followed by two innings from Balfour and three from Ryan. Ryan didn’t allow a hit in his final three innings. As with the win over Windsor Locks, Bristol jumped on its opponent with a three-run first inning.
