June 16, 2018: The New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet in Greensboro, N.C., is a terrific event to be a part of, and some local athletes were able to compete in it on this date.
The Bristol Central boys 4×100-meter relay of senior Pat Kjornrattanawanich, senior Dathan Hickey, sophomore David Bowes and senior Nigel West was a record-breaking quartet throughout the 2018 spring season. On this particular Saturday in June, the Ram relay was the 34th best in the country in a time of 42.67 seconds, which gave them a better finish than state counterparts Hartford Public and Danbury.

On that same Saturday, St. Paul senior Christian Sturm took part in the hammer throw. Sturm won the Connecticut hammer throw in his junior and senior seasons, then ended his high school career on the national stage. For more about Sturm, here’s my original story.
