Bristol Central baseball entered its May 18, 2019, home game against Plainville at Muzzy Field on a mission.
The Rams had just missed the postseason in 2018 after posting a 7-13 record. Central was 7-10 going into the Plainville game, and it had suffered defeat in seven of nine one-run games.
The Rams were able to breathe easy after their game against the Blue Devils, which ended in the sixth inning via mercy rule in a 14-4 rout. Central grabbed its elusive playoff berth, and all involved could breathe a sigh of relief.
Sean Wininger was the winning pitcher that day, and Austin Brown led the offense with two doubles, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
