Former Bristol Eastern girls soccer standouts Myah Croze and Karly Martin rose to the challenge for the second straight game in Western Connecticut State University’s 2-1 double overtime win at Western New England University on Sunday.
Croze, a junior, scored both goals in the victory and was a constant problem for WNEU’s defense with six shots, including five on goal. Croze tallied the first goal in the 58th minute on an assist by freshman Suzana Imetovski of Seymour. WNEU didn’t take long to respond, but Croze had a chance to give WCSU the win. Her shot with less than three minutes left in regulation went wide, and the game went to overtime.
The Colonials outshot their opponents, 4-0, in the first 10-minute extra session but couldn’t put the ball in the net. WNEU fired off three shots in the first four and a half minutes of the second extra session, but one went out high and the other two were saved by Martin, the senior goalkeeper. Imetovski found Croze again, and Croze scored at the 105:03 mark to end the game. Martin ended the contest with 10 saves.
Croze has scored three goals in WCSU’s first two games, both wins. A solid 77.8% of Croze’s shots have been on goal. Martin has saved 20 shots in two games with a save percentage of 90.9%. Martin has played all 195:03 in goal for the Colonials.
