How’s this for crazy?
Bristol Eastern senior pitcher Zach Marquis tossed the first perfect game in the long coaching tenure of Mike Giovinazzo last Monday. Marquis blanked Rocky Hill 13-0 at Muzzy Field, and he did it without letting a ball get hit to the outfield, according to Bristol Observer writer and Eastern guru Michael Letendre.
Marquis struck out just five, but he let his defense do the work behind him. Macgregor Goulet had the play of the game on the final out, making a diving catch, according to Letendre.
Letendre said there have been no-hitters, but no perfect games since Giovinazzo started coaching in 1975. Until last Monday at Muzzy Field, where Marquis made history.
For his efforts, Marquis is up for CPTV Sports UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week. Click here to cast your vote for Marquis.
DISCLAIMER: I admit that I completely forgot to include Marquis in the BRISTOL’S SPRING ROUNDUP #7. Sorry about that Zach!
