The Kennedy boys soccer team was one of the last to qualify for the Class LL state tournament.
On Saturday, the Eagles became one of the first to move on in ‘LL’.
Kennedy, seeded 33rd, took down No. 32 Norwich Free Academy 2-1 in two overtimes in Norwich. The Eagles improve to 8-8-1 on the season.
On Tuesday, Kennedy will face a familiar foe in a first round match. The Eagles will play the top-seeded and undefeated Naugatuck Greyhounds at 2 p.m. at Veterans Field on the campus of Naugatuck High School.
The teams have played twice so far in 2016, and Naugatuck won both matches. The Greyhounds won 1-0 at West Side Middle School in Waterbury on Oct. 24, then ran away for a 4-0 victory in the quarterfinal round of the NVL Tournament. Naugatuck went on to win the NVL Tournament title. The Greyhounds have a total record of 16-0-3.
The Eagles are 8-9-1 overall, including the NVL Tournament loss.
The teams meet for the third time on Tuesday, and for much higher stakes.
