The Wolcott football team played its final home game of the regular season against Torrington on Friday night.
The Eagles, who have been playing a lot of younger players, had a tough night against the Raiders and lost, 50-6, at a windy and cold Joe Monroe Field. Wolcott fell to 3-6 with one game left, Thanksgiving morning against Holy Cross at Municipal Stadium.
Mitch Matyoka scored from two yards out in the third quarter for the lone Eagle touchdown of the game. Anthony Bell broke off a 54-yard run a couple plays before the Matyoka touchdown. Bell, a sophomore quarterback, was among the young players Wolcott had on the field. Sophomores Jahon Rose, Michael Chiappalone and Quinn Pawlak also saw a bunch of playing time. It was the final home game for Eagle seniors Mitch Matyoka, Mike Greene, Sean Pawlak, Ethan Mazza, Kevin Saturno, Tyler Paquet, Frank Turrell, Sam Sarlo, Spencer McKenna and Christian Caruso. Greene was lost for the season after needing surgery following an injury during the third game of the season against WCA. Turrell got hurt in the Woodland game.
