HOOPS ROUNDUP: Crusader girls take down Wildcats in double overtime

The Holy Cross-Seymour boys basketball game wasn’t the only close contest of the night on Thursday.

The girls game between the Crusaders and Wildcats needed double overtime. When that game inside the Tim McDonald Gymnasium finished, Holy Cross had claimed an 81-78 victory over a tough Seymour squad.

The Waterbury Career Academy girls saw their home game against Torrington go down to the final seconds. The Spartans lost a tough one, 59-57, to the Red Raiders.

Holy Cross 81, Seymour 78, 2 OT: The Crusaders got 25 points from Cayla Howard, 20 from Mya Zaccagnini and 18 from Alyssa Hebb, and they needed all of them in this win. The Wildcats received a game-high 30 points from Kiley Drezek, who nailed a game-best seven 3-pointers.

Torrington 59, WCA 57: Kiyarah Watson led the Spartans with 26 points while Analise Santiago added 17 points. Jonna Pierce joined her teammates in double figures with 10 points.
