It was a good Thursday evening for Bristol Eastern soccer at Muzzy Field.
The boys claimed a 2-1 win in the opener, and then the girls did the same in the nightcap. Each time, the match-winning goal came courtesy of a Lancer freshman.
Here’s more on each contest:
Girls
Bristol Eastern 2, Bristol Central 1: Freshman Leah Policarpio came up with the go-ahead goal for the Lancers in the second half.
Junior Ashley Macdonald put the Rams ahead 1-0, but Eastern junior Sara Tyminski scored the equalizer. That set the stage for Policarpio, who helped give Eastern the victory. Policarpio scored off a cross from sophomore Myah Croze, according to a tweet from Josh Kestenbaum of The Bristol Press. Sophomore Hannah Richards picked up the win in goal for the Lancers.
Bristol Eastern improved to 4-3-1 with the win. Bristol Central dropped to 4-4.

Quick notes
- Three of the six goals scored in Thursday’s doubleheader were by freshmen. That bodes well for the future of city soccer.
- The second doubleheader between the city schools is scheduled for Halloween at Muzzy Field. The girls will play the first match.
