The first installment of the Bristol Eastern-Bristol Central rivalry on the diamond is here.
First up is softball, with the Lancers (8-2) hosting the Rams (5-7) at 3:45 this afternoon at the front field on King Street. Eastern is coming off a tough 5-3 road loss to Middletown. The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Lancers, who hadn’t tasted defeat since Southington on April 9. Central beat Bloomfield and Platt over the last two days, but a motivated Eastern figures to be a tougher opponent. Still, it’s rivalry game and anything can happen.
At 6 o’clock this evening, Central hosts Eastern at Muzzy Field. The Lancers have the better record at 7-5 while the Rams are 4-6. Both teams have lost two straight games entering this evening’s battle.
After beating Tolland and Southington by a combined margin of 16-1, Eastern lost 9-6 to Wethersfield at Muzzy on Monday, then was defeated 11-7 on the road by Glastonbury on Tuesday.
Central had won three straight games before being dealt an 8-6 road loss by Enfield on April 24. The Rams didn’t play again until Monday, and that was a tough 4-3 home loss on Monday at Muzzy.
The venue switches for softball on May 21, when Central hosts Eastern. Eastern baseball plays as the home team that night at Muzzy.
