CIAC State Tournament Day 1: Monday, Nov. 9, 2015

Today marked the first full day of the CIAC’s state tournaments. Girls soccer took to the fields while girls volleyball began indoors. Here’s a wrap on how area teams fared, starting with girls soccer:

GIRLS SOCCER
No. 8 Holy Cross 2, No. 25 Litchfield 0: The Crusaders used a pair of second half goals to win their Class S first round match over the Cowgirls at Post University’s LaMoy Field in Waterbury.
Next up for Holy Cross is No. 24 Windsor Locks, which beat No. 9 HMTCA 3-1 on the road. That second round match is Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross.
No. 13 St. Paul 8, No. 20 Norwich Tech/Holy Family 0: The Falcons hammered their overmatched Constitution State Conference opponent under the lights at home. 
Next up for St. Paul is a stern test at No. 4 Coventry on Wednesday at 2 pm. The Patriots had a first round bye in Class S.
No. 10 Wolcott 2, No. 23 Killingly 1: The Eagles beat their foe from the Eastern Connecticut Conference in a Class M first round match at home.
Wolcott gets another home match Wednesday against No. 26 Bethel, which beat No. 7 Morgan 1-0. That second round match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Joe Monroe Field.
No. 11 East Haven 4, No. 22 Bristol Eastern 2: The Lancers saw their season come to an end against their Southern Connecticut Conference opponent in East Haven.
Bristol Eastern finishes the season with a record of 7-9-1.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
No. 12 West Haven 3, No. 21 Kennedy 1: The Eagles saw their season end against their SCC foe at West Haven High School.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 26-28, 25-16. Kennedy finishes it’s season with a record of 10-12.
No. 10 Greenwich 3, No. 23 Bristol Central 0: The Rams dropped their match to the Cardinals of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference in Greenwich.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-3, 25-13. Bristol Central ends its season with a record of 9-12.
No. 9 Nonnewaug 3, No. 24 Kaynor Tech 0: The Panthers qualified for the Class M state tournament in their last match of the regular season, but their time in the postseason was shorter than they would have liked.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-6, 25-21 in favor of the Berkshire League team. Kaynor Tech finishes its season at 8-12.
No. 4 Lyman Memorial 3, No. 29 Holy Cross 0: The Crusaders saw their season come to an end in their Class S first round match.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-11. Holy Cross won three straight matches at the end of the year to qualify for the postseason. The Crusaders finish their season at 9-13.
