Look at the statistics for the LIU Brooklyn men’s basketball team and a familiar name from Sacred Heart High School keeps popping up. That name is Ty Flowers, and the redshirt sophomore has been doing well in his first season with the Blackbirds.
Flowers, who has always been an outside shooting threat, leads LIU Brooklyn in 3-pointers made and 3-pointers attempted. He has connected on 27 of his 68 attempts, or a 39.7 percent clip. Flowers also leads the Blackbirds in total rebounds and rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9 forward has 59 total rebounds for an average of 5.9 per game.
Flowers is second in scoring at 13 points per game, and he ranks second in blocked shots with nine. He is averaging 28.8 minutes per game, and he has connected on 11 of his 12 free throw attempts (91.7 percent).
LIU Brooklyn is 5-5 through its first 10 games. In his return to Connecticut on Nov. 13, Flowers connected for 23 points in an 89-87 win over Fairfield University at the Webster Bank Arena. Flowers made six of his seven three-point attempts in that game and was 8-of-11 overall from the floor.
Flowers gets to play two more games in his home state this season. LIU Brooklyn plays at Sacred Heart University on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. On Jan. 26, the Blackbirds face CCSU in New Britain at 1 p.m.
