Ty Flowers, Long Island University basketball
This former Sacred Heart High standout turned in an epic performance and played all 45 minutes in a 67-64 overtime victory over Merrimack College.
The redshirt junior totaled 25 points, a school-record 27 rebounds and three blocked shots. That is not a typo. Flowers had TWENTY-SEVEN rebounds. He broke the school record, and the Northeast Conference record, of 26 that Casey Scurry had against Marist on Feb. 8, 1983. The 27 rebounds are the highest recorded in the country this season.
Flowers’ 27 rebound tied him for 22nd in the NCAA modern era (since 1973). He averaged 20 points, 18 rebounds and 40 percent three-point shooting during the week and earned NEC co-player of the week honors.
Flowers ranked second in the NEC in rebounds per game (10.2), double-doubles (12), third in blocked shots (1.7) and eighth in points per game (14.7).
Jordan Booker, Dean College basketball
The former Crosby standout was named New England Collegiate Conference player of the week after averaging 32.3 points, 9 assists, 4.3 steals and 4.0 rebounds over three games.
When Dean beat Pine Manor College, 117-87, Booker erupted for 48 points and 11 assists. In the next game, an 83-82 win over Eastern Nazarene College, Booker had 28 points. Booker’s final game of the week saw him tally 21 points in a 91-79 loss to New England College.
Booker’s hot play continued this week with a 32-point effort in a 91-74 loss to former Wolcott standout Matt Finke (22 points) and Mitchell College on Wednesday.
Tyler Arbuckle, Saint Anselm College basketball
This former St. Paul and Taft standout was named Northeast-10 Conference rookie of the week for the fourth time this season.
Arbuckle averaged 20.5 points in wins over Assumption College (86-67) and Stonehill College (89-73). He had 17 points and eight rebounds against Assumption, then tallied 24 points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists against Stonehill.
Arbuckle has started all 23 games for Saint Anselm. He is averaging 14.8 points in 31.9 minutes per contest.
Connor Baston, Suffolk University track and field
This former St. Paul standout was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference rookie of the week for the third straight time, and third overall.
Baston competed in the long jump for the first time at the Plymouth State University’s Panther Invitational. He jumped 5.90 meters or a little over 19 feet, 4 inches. That jump was good enough for eighth out of 22 competitors. It was the best performance by a GNAC athlete at the Plymouth meet, and it was the fourth-best mark of the season in the conference.
Khadaijia Brooks, Marshall University basketball
This former Bristol Eastern standout is in her redshirt senior season, and she is one of the leaders statistically for the Thundering Herd.
Brooks has started all 22 games for Marshall and leads the team in steals with 30 (1.4 per game). She is second in blocks (16), third in rebounds per game (5.5) and fourth in minutes per game (26.9).
Brooks had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, along with four assists, in an 82-69 loss to Bowling Green on Dec. 7, 2019. Brooks also had 15 points against Evansville in a 66-62 loss on Nov. 24, 2019. She has had four steals in a game three different times this season, and she also had three blocks in a game.
