The Wolcott girls indoor track and field team finished fifth at Monday night’s NVL championship meet in New Haven.
The Eagles had 25 team points. Woodland Regional won its ninth straight championship with 115 points, 13 points ahead of second-place Seymour, which had 102. Kennedy was eighth with 16 points, followed by Sacred Heart in 10th with nine, Crosby in 11th with eight, Wilby in 12th with six, and Holy Cross in 13th with four.
There were two individual champions from two different local schools. Here’s what happened with each local team that had at least one sixth-place finish:
Wolcott senior Kathryn Rodrigues won the 1,600-meter run in 5:28.08, and she finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:53.89. Sophomore Veronika Hyrn took fourth in the 600-meter run in 1:48.80, and senior Lauren Kazemakas placed fifth in the long jump in 14-10.50. The 4×200-meter relay finished sixth in 2:02.39 behind the team of junior Samantha Riviezzo, Kazemakas, Hyrn and freshman Reese Yost.
For Kennedy, senior Christina Capozzi won the 55-meter dash in 7.58 seconds and was third in the 300-meter dash in 43.91.
Sacred Heart senior Madaline Bouffard-MacIver took fourth in the high jump at four feet, eight inches. Senior Kylie Dombrowski finished sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.89 seconds, and senior Beverly Okoronkwo was also sixth, finishing the 300-meter dash in 46.08. The 4×400-meter relay took fifth in 4:58.18 behind the team of senior Veronique Recile, senior Samantha Warren, junior Victoria Creaven and freshman Raeanna Byrnes. The 1,600-meter sprint medley claimed sixth in 5:18.60 behind the team of Recile, Warren, Byrnes and Creaven.
Crosby senior Zamya Boone finished second in the long jump at 16-6.25.
Wilby sophomore Elisea Austin took third in the 55-meter dash in 7.83 seconds.
Holy Cross junior Delia Murphy was fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:32.58.
