Daniel Walsh, Maritime College swimming
This former Sacred Heart star earned his first accolades as a member of the Privateers after two terrific meets. Walsh was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
All Walsh did was win all six events that he competed in against Lehman College and Mount Saint Mary. The Naugatuck native won the 100-yard freestyle and helped the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays take first place. Walsh won two individual events against Mount Saint Mary, the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. He also helped the 200 freestyle relay capture another top finish.
Earlier this season, Walsh broke a 28-year-old record in the 1000 freestyle against Purchase College on Nov. 29. When Walsh touched the wall in a time of 10:22.65, he bested Sean Boughal’s previous mark of 10:26.4. Walsh is a freshman at Maritime, a part of the State University of New York system. Maritime is located in the Bronx.
Raegon Shirling-Davis, Albertus Magnus College track and field
The sophomore guard from Kennedy has played in all nine games and made nine starts for the 8-1 Falcons. She is playing an average of 30.9 minutes per game.
Shirling-Davis is the leading rebounder (8.7 per game) for Albertus Magnus. She is also tied for the team lead in assists per game at 5.1. Shirling-Davis is averaging 5.2 points per game to go along with 2.9 steals and 0.6 blocks. She has connected on 40 percent of her three-point attempts (6-15). Shirling-Davis has scored six or more points in six of the nine games.
Haley Knox, Eastern Connecticut State indoor track and field
This senior from Bristol Central took part in a meet record at the Rhode Island College Invitational.
Knox helped the 4×800-meter relay snatch the meet record in a time of 10:14.40. She was the second leg in a relay that also included Christina Gosselin, Samantha McKosky and Maggie Dulak.
Knox also ran in the mile race for the first time since January 2016, and she knocked 40 seconds off of that previous time in a third place finish.
Rashana Siders, American International College basketball
This former Holy Cross standout returned to her home state on Dec. 11 for a game against the University of New Haven. The Yellowjackets lost 68-59 to the Chargers, but Siders had a solid game.
Siders played 35 minutes and scored 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor. She had four rebounds and three assists as well.
Siders has played all nine games with two starts. She is averaging 6.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 23.2 minutes per game. Siders has eight steals on the season.
Donovan Soucy, Connecticut College indoor track and field
This former Bristol Eastern competitor is in his sophomore season with the Camels, and he had a good meet before the winter break. Soucy and Connecticut College competed in the Wesleyan Indoor Tri-Meet on Dec. 7.
Soucy helped the 4×400-meter relay finished second at that meet. Soucy was the second leg on a relay that included Sebastian Cox, Josh Simensky and Ben Vazquez. Soucy also competed in the 200 meters.
