TRI-STATE PLAYOFF UPDATE: Semifinal matchups are set

The Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League Playoffs take a week off for the American Amateur Baseball Congress World Series, but the semifinal matchups are set.

The Terryville Black Sox needed all three games in their second round series to dispatch the Bethlehem Plowboys. The Litchfield Cowboys also required three games to knock out the Tribury Twisters. Terryville and Litchfield will start their semifinal series on Aug. 14 at Waterbury’s Municipal Stadium.

The Naugatuck Dogs swept the Wolcott Scrappers out of the playoffs, but each game was decided by a run. In the other second round matchup, the Tri-Town Trojans eliminated the Southington 66ers with a sweep, though the second game was settled in extra innings by a single run.

Here’s how we got to this point:

Black Sox-Plowboys

Terryville won the first game 3-2 in 10 innings, but Bethlehem rallied for a 9-7 victory to even the series. Game 3 was also decided by two runs or less, but the Black Sox came out on top by a score of 3-2.

Cowboys-Twisters

Tribury opened the series with a 5-4 win, then Litchfield took a 6-4 victory in Game 2 to square the series at 1-1. There was less drama in Game 3 as the Cowboys knocked off the Twisters 7-1.

Dogs-Scrappers

Tyler Boisvert pitched Naugatuck Tyler Boisvert pitched Naugatuck to a 1-0 win in the first game, then the Dogs won a higher-scoring affair in the second game by a tally of 6-5.

Trojans-66ers

Tri-Town coasted to a 6-0 victory in the first game, but the second game was much, much harder. The Trojans needed a run in the 10th inning to finish the 66ers by a score of 3-2.
