Bristol Juniors begin Northeast Regional play Friday

The Bristol Post 2 Junior American Legion baseball team begins play in the Northeast regional tournament on Friday in Windsor Locks.

Bristol, the Connecticut state champion, takes on Rhode Island runner-up Elmwood Sports Auburn Post 20 at 1 p.m. Here are a couple important points about the Northeast Junior Regional:

This is a single-elimination tournament, unlike the double-elimination format at the Senior Legion level. Each team in the Junior Regional is guaranteed at least two games in the tournament. The home team for each game will be decided by a coin flip.

The other six teams in the Junior Regional are: Windsor Locks Post 36 (Connecticut host team), South Kingstown Post 39 (Rhode Island champion), Dover Post 8 (New Hampshire champion), Hartt Transportation River Jacks (Hampden, Maine champion), Elmwood Sports Auburn Post 20 (Rhode Island runner-up), Franklin Post 75 (Massachusetts champion) and Quincy Post 294 (Massachusetts runner-up).
