Mario Izzo must have decided that if one seven-RBI game was good, two was better.
Izzo joined St. Paul baseball teammate Ryan Daniels in the seven-RBI club by hitting that total in a 15-2 Falcon “home” win over Naugatuck at the Ray Legenza Baseball Field. Bus issues forced the game to be moved from St. Paul to Naugatuck, but the Falcons did just fine and improved to 7-0.
Izzo finished a triple shy of the cycle, just as Daniels did in a 13-1 win in six innings over Torrington this past Saturday. Izzo went 3-for-3 with a grand slam, double, three runs scored and the seven RBI on Wednesday.
Izzo began his big day with a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. He had an RBI double in a seven-run third inning that put St. Paul ahead, 10-0. In the fourth inning, Izzo launched a grand slam to push the Falcon advantage to 15-2.
