Alysha Accetura has been a standout for the WCA softball team this season, but then she turned in an historic effort on Wednesday.
Accetura threw the first no-hitter in school history as WCA dropped Kennedy, 16-1, in five innings on the turf at Kennedy High School. She gave up one earned run, struck out eight, walked three and hit a batter. Accetura threw 46 of her 73 pitches for strikes, including 13 of 20 first pitches. She got five outs via ground balls and one via a fly ball.
In her fifth and final inning, Accetura struck out the first batter she faced. After a walk, Accetura picked up her eighth strikeout. When the final batter grounded out to Kaitlyn Basant at first base, Accetura had her no-hitter.
Accetura also went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two singles and four RBI. Alyssia Carillo went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single, three runs scored and two RBI. Basant was 2-for-4 with a triple, single, two runs scored and three RBI. Leadoff batter Chastity Cruz went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Mikayla Krawitz was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Trinety Sanchez and Zoey Buell each had a single and two RBI.
WCA improved to 3-4 with the win.
