Who’s in, who’s out for the upcoming postseason in girls’ basketball

The regular season is nearly over for local high school girls’ basketball teams, so here’s a look at where they stand with the postseason on the horizon.

Holy Cross is an area-best 17-2 overall, including a 16-1 mark in the NVL. The Crusaders will be the top seed in the upcoming NVL tournament, which starts Saturday. First up is the regular season final tonight at home against Watertown.

St. Paul (14-5, 13-4) plays at WCA (9-10, 7-10) tonight in the regular season finale for both teams.

Wolcott (13-6, 12-5) closes the regular season at Crosby (5-14, 4-13) tonight.

Kennedy (8-11, 7-10) ends its regular season at Torrington tonight.

Wilby (2-17, 1-16) plays its season finale at Naugatuck tonight.

Holy Cross, St. Paul and Wolcott will all be playing in the NVL tournament. Those three teams have qualified for state tournament play, as have WCA and Kennedy. Crosby makes it with an upset of Wolcott. Teams need to win 30% of their games to qualify for the state tournament, according to CIAC guidelines.

The regular seasons have ended for Bristol Central (15-5), Bristol Eastern (10-10) and Kaynor Tech (10-10). The Rams and Lancers both begin CCC tournament play tonight. The CTC hasn’t posted information about its conference tournament.
