The Connecticut Twilight League Playoffs began Monday, but not for the Bristol Knights.
That’s because the two-time defending champions are the No. 1 seed. Bristol owned a first round bye through Monday and Tuesday’s games. The Knights play for the first time Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the No. 5 Brickhouse Indians at Rotary Field in South Windsor. Brickhouse defeated the No. 4 Chicago Sam’s Orioles 2-0 and knocked them into the Elimination Bracket.
Bristol won all three regular season games against Brickhouse.
At stake for Bristol is simple — a three-peat. The Knights went 20-4-1 in the regular season and set themselves up with not only a bye, but no losses entering the playoffs. The bottom four teams in the 10-team playoffs start with a loss. Teams 3-6 don’t start with a loss, but they also lack a first round bye.
Bristol was rewarded for its incredibly strong regular season. Starting Wednesday, the Knights take aim at a third straight CTL championship.
The Willimantic Ridges (13-12-1) were the other division winner and received the other first round bye.
