The Northeast-10 Conference announced its weekly top women’s basketball players on Tuesday, and a former Bristol Eastern standout was among them.
Ciara Collins, who plays for Pace, earned Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 11.5 points, four rebounds and shot 43.5% from the field over two games. Pace won both of those games.
For the season, Collins has played in 11 games and started 10. She is averaging 7.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.7 steals in 24.5 minutes per contest. Collins is shooting 84.7% at the foul line. Pace is 4-7 after its first 11 games.
In NE-10 men’s basketball, two former local standouts were named to the weekly honor roll for their efforts. Saint Anselm senior guard Tyler Arbuckle, who played for St. Paul and Taft, averaged 20 points, six rebounds and 4.5 assists in two wins for the Hawks. His second game was against the University of Bridgeport, which meant trip back to his home state. Arbuckle had 20 points (7-15 field goals), nine rebounds and five assists in the victory. Saint Anselm improved to 8-3 with the win. Arbuckle has started all 11 games and is averaging 14.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes per contest.
Assumption Isiah Gaiter, who played for Sacred Heart High, had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 72-58 loss to No. 23-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas. The Greyhounds fell to 4-6 with the loss. Gaiter has started all 10 games and is averaging 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 30.1 minutes per contest. Gaiter is shooting 50.4% from the field, 42.3% from the three-point line, and 85.7% on free throws.
