The Crosby boys basketball team has righted the ship, and they are on another winning streak.
The Bulldogs began the season with four straight wins, then lost consecutive games to drop to 4-2. Crosby is back on an up-swing of late with five straight wins to improve to 9-2. The Bulldogs have recorded victories over Wilby, Derby, Amistad, Woodland and WCA.
Crosby dispatched WCA in convincing fashion, 91-57, at The Crosby Palace. Jonathan Rivera had another monster game with 33 points (7 3-pointers), 4 assists and 3 steals. Daniel Melendez had 11 points while seniors Jason Robinson, Chris Spears and Andre Arrington each contributed nine points. Brandon Beamon and Manny Escobales tallied seven points apiece. Robinson led the way with 10 rebounds, Rivera and Kahlif Willard tallied four assists apiece, and Willard added five steals. Rivera, Spears and Melendez each had three steals for the Bulldogs, who tallied 18 for the game.
Rivera has been having a tremendous senior season with averages of 28.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game. Robinson is averaging 13.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2 steals per contest.
Crosby hosts St. Paul (6-2) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Junior Jamie Leggett leads the Falcons at 26.4 points per game. Leggett is averaging 27.6 points over his last seven games and has scored less than 23 points just once this season. He had 15 points in a 57-47 win at Ansonia in the season opener on Dec. 21.
