You might be thinking how in the heck can two different teams win NVL baseball titles on the same date.
It just so happened that Holy Cross and Wolcott played for the tournament championship on the same date, May 24. The Crusaders won it in 2017, the Eagles did it in 2019. Here’s a quick look at both.
May 24, 2017: Holy Cross made a return trip to the NVL final, and the loss to Oxford the previous year was still a fresh memory.
The Crusaders were able to overcome some uncharacteristically shaky defense in the 2017 final against Seymour. Holy Cross used timely hitting and the pitching of ace Fran Phelan Jr. to claim a 3-1 victory.
Here is my story from the game.

May 24, 2019: Wolcott and Holy Cross were both the top seeds in their respective state tournament classes, but before they began play in those brackets, they met in the NVL final.
The top-seeded Eagles tallied a pair of three-run innings and pulled away from the second-seeded Crusaders, 10-3. Dane Hassan, Alex James, Alec Calabro and Anthony Ligi each had multi-hit games with Hassan driving in three runs. Brett Adams pitched the first 6 2/3 innings to claim the victory. Tim Zupkus had two hits to lead Holy Cross.
