St. Paul boys soccer loses Class S state match to Bolton on penalty kicks

We nearly had a second round Class S state tournament matchup between the St. Paul and Holy Cross boys soccer teams on Wednesday. Alas, Bolton had other ideas.

It took round after round after round of penalty kicks, but the Bulldogs outscored the Falcons 14-12 on PKs and won 3-2 on Monday evening on the natural grass of McPhee Field. St. Paul, the No. 14 seed, finished the season with a record of 9-7-1. It was the final match for seniors Jack Noli, Nathan Duhaime, Ethan Rembish, Evan Kowalski, Matthew Stephani, Dylan Bissonnette, Patrick Levesque, Luke Hines, Ethan Sanzone, Daniel Reardon, Kody Hanner, Patrick Carbone, Derek Angelicola and Tashon Wilkins. Hines and Carbone served as captains.

As for third-seeded Holy Cross (14-3-2), it knocked off No. 30 East Granby, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Holy Cross is scheduled to host No. 19 Bolton on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Municipal Stadium. Bolton plays in the North Central Connecticut Conference, as does East Granby.
