Chase Collegiate claimed not one, but two championships on Saturday.
The Highlander boys soccer team defeated Wooster School, 2-0, in Danbury to wrap up the HVAL tournament title. The boys cross country team captured the NEPSAC Division IV cross country championship at Hebron Academy in Hebron, Maine.
Simon Kopecky and Patrick Osiecki scored a goal each while Aiden Coelho added an assist for Chase boys soccer. Rohan Singh made an unbelievable 16 saves in the victory. The Highlanders won the HVAL for the first time since 2007. Chase hosts Boston Trinity in a Class D New England quarterfinal round match on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
In the NEPSAC Division IV cross country meet, Chase edged out Dexter Southfield School (Brookline, Mass.), 121-123, for the championship. Ethan Puc was the individual champion, finishing the 5k course in 17:13. Rafael Mahario was seventh overall (18:57), followed by Tommy Lapham in 29th (25th team place, 20:04); Colby Calabrese in 32nd (26th team, 20:13); and Jamal Clarke in 69th (62nd team, 21:33).
