The Valley Thunder held a team meeting before the continuation of their Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League game against the Torrington Rebels on July 11 at Tyrrell Middle School in Wolcott.
The team changed its name to Thunder Ducks, then pulled out a 14-13 victory over the Rebels in the completion of a suspended game. Joe Torres got hit by a pitch, then stole second and made it to third on an overthrow. Torres scored on a passed ball to give Valley a lead it wouldn’t give up. Anthony Capasso got two strikeouts and a comebacker in the bottom frame to end the game.
It was far from the top performance of the night for Capasso. In the regular game, Capasso no-hit the Rebels for five innings in a 7-0 win over the Rebels. The game was ended after five innings due to wet conditions and darkness. Capasso was backed up by the offensive efforts of Torres and Mike Meier. Torres went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Meier was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI.
Valley improved to 8-6 on the season.
