Former Kaynor Tech standout Terrell Patterson did something only one other Southern Connecticut State University track runner had done in program history.
When Patterson finished sixth in the mile (4:13.01) at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 9, he became an All-American. Patterson is just the second Owl runner to earn All-American status, with the first being Josh Perry in 2012.
Patterson was just a tenth of a second behind the fifth place finisher at the NCAA meet, which was held at Pittsburg State in Kansas on March 8-9.
Kylie Rice, Emmanuel College lacrosse
The junior and former Holy Cross star has been a point-producing machine for the Saints early on in the season.
Rice has 17 total points in the first three games for Emmanuel. She has tallied 10 goals and seven assists. That effort led to Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honor roll recognition for Rice. She especially came alive in the last two games, both wins, for the Saints.
Rice totaled six points (four goals, two assists) in a 19-3 win over Anna Maria College on March 13. On March 16, the Bethlehem native returned to her home state for a game against Albertus Magnus College and tallied eight points. Rice scored five goals and added three assists in the 13-4 victory. Over those three games, she also had four groundballs, three draw control wins, and she caused four turnovers.
Tyriq Harris, Albertus Magnus College baseball
The former Wilby speedster earned GNAC weekly honors after a blistering effort at the plate.
Harris was 9-for-16 over a seven-game stretch with two triples, eight runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases for the Falcons. His averages read like this: .563 batting; .667 on-base; and .813 slugging.
Harris collected multiple hits in four different games, including a season-high three in a 9-6 win over Wells College on March 12. In that game against Wells, the senior outfielder went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Through the first eight games of the season, Harris is leading the team in batting (.524), on-base (.615), slugging (.762), triples (2), and he is tied for the top spot in hits (11).
Tom Curtin, Central Connecticut State University baseball
So far, so good for this former Bristol Eastern hurler.
Curtin, a senior, has appeared in three games for the Blue Devils, all starts. He is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA. Curtin has pitched 19 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on 18 hits. He has struck out 10 and walked four. He was recognized as a Northeast Conference Prime Performer on March 5.
On March 2, Curtin threw five scoreless innings against UMass and picked up a no-decision. He gave up two hits and struck out a pair of batters.
Curtin started in a 9-5 win over St. Bonaventure on March 8 and pitched the first seven innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits, struck out three and walked two.
On March 16, Curtin pitched the first seven innings of a 5-3 win over Saint Peter’s. He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits, struck out five and walked two.
Nate Carney, Southern Connecticut State University baseball
The junior left-hander had a good week and earned a Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll spot.
Carney, a former Bristol Eastern ace, picked up his first win of the season on March 14 in a 22-2 victory over Caldwell. He pitched the first seven innings and yielded one run on nine hits. Carney struck out nine, walked none, and improved his record to 1-2 on the season.
Three days earlier, Carney tossed a perfect inning in a 5-4 loss against Florida National University. He struck out one that game. For the season, Carney has struck out 17 and walked none in 21.1 innings.
