INDOOR TRACK ROUNDUP: Wilby’s Messiah Harling wins twice at Class L meet

Class L boys

Wilby sophomore Messiah Harling won two individual gold medals at the Class L indoor track and field championship meet on Friday at New Haven’s Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Harling won the 55m dash in 6.59 seconds, and he took first in the long jump with a jump of 21 feet, 1.25 inches. Harling’s efforts helped Wilby finish ninth overall as a team with 21 points. Xavier won the boys team championship with 64 points.

Bristol Central junior Jose Ramirez claimed a gold medal in the 600m (1:24.76). The Rams took a silver medal in the 4x800m relay with the team of senior Pacifico Flores, junior Mark Petrosky, senior Devin Flores and Ramirez.

The top Kennedy finish was a bronze medal in the 4x200m relay with the team of junior Tyreke Scarlett, senior William Mahoney, sophomore Taj Thomas and senior Tariq Phillips. Eagle junior Alexander Brites had the team’s best individual finish, claiming seventh in the 1600m.

The top Crosby finish was a bronze medal from senior Elijah Lewis in the 600m. Bristol Eastern picked up a seventh place finish from junior Jake Woznicki in the 600m.

Class L girls

Bristol Central sophomore Abigail Calfe took seventh in the long jump while Kennedy senior Jordyn Wilson was eighth in the 300m dash.

Class S boys

Sacred Heart senior Edward Williams Jr. won a gold medal in the 55m hurdles (7.51) during the Class S indoor track and field championship meet in New Haven on Thursday. The Hearts were seventh in the 4x200m relay behind the team of seniors Michael DiGiovancarlo, Joseph Badillo, Victor Lopez and Nicholas Trujillo. The Sacred Heart boys took 13th as a team with 10 points. Bloomfield won the boys team championship with 115 points.

The top St. Paul finish came from senior Connor Baston, who was 18th in the 55m dash.

Class S girls

The top Sacred Heart finish came from the 1600m sprint medley relay, which finished fourth behind the team of sophomore Asia Chapman, junior Veronique Recile, junior Beverly Okoronkwo and senior Jenna French. French took fifth place in the 1000m.
