SWIM WRAP-UP: Bristol Eastern’s Brianna Ogonowski competes at State Open

The local girls swimming and diving season officially came to an end on Saturday at the CIAC State Open, held inside the Kiphuth Exhibition Pool at Yale University.

Bristol Eastern senior Brianna Ogonowski was the lone local competitor to qualify for the Open, and she swam in the 100 breaststroke. It was an event that Ogonowski finished fourth in at the Class M state meet on Wednesday night at Wesleyan University. Ogonowski took over a second off of her trial time by swimming the race in 1:07.53.

Bristol Eastern was 12th as a team in Class M, and Bristol Central finished 17th in the same meet. Eastern junior Emily Mulcunry placed eighth in diving while Central senior Erin Petke finished 15th. In the Class M finals, Central junior Mackenzie Pina took 10th place in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Class S

Sacred Heart was 13th as a team while St. Paul was 24th. Sacred Heart’s 200 medley relay of Sarah Griffith, Ava Longo, Kylie McCue and Elizabeth Brown had the best local finish of the Class S meet by finishing seventh. Brown was 10th in the 100 backstroke. For St. Paul, freshman Amelia Bradzioch competed in her first state final meet.
