Bristol Central girls soccer, boys soccer rally to make state tournament

The Bristol Central girls soccer and boys soccer teams battled their way to state tournament berths in the second half of the season.

The Ram girls were 3-8-1 with four games remaining. Needing three wins to clinch a Class L state tournament berth, Bristol Central ripped off two victories over Maloney on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22. The Rams defeated Plainville 2-0 on Oct. 26 to clinch a state tournament spot. Bristol Central suffered a tough 4-3 overtime loss to city rival Bristol Eastern, but its spot in the postseason was sealed.

In the Plainville game, Adalia Malick’s header in the second half snapped a 0-0 tie. Malick’s goal came off of a Faith Roy assist. Roy had moved up from the back line, then crossed the ball into the goalmouth, where Malick met it with her head. Bella Bosco’s penalty kick put the Rams up 2-0. Bristol Central coach Ginny Godbout said Maddie Ross had “perhaps her best game on the defensive end” and shut down several Plainville offensive attacks.

The Bristol Central boys were under .500 in their first nine games with a record of 3-4-2. Three straight wins over New Britain, Platt and Neiwngton from Oct. 12-17 clinched a Class L state tournament spot for the Rams. The Newington win was 2-1 and came in overtime at home.

Bristol Central hit a rough patch in its last four games, first with two ties and then two losses. Still, the Rams made sure they wrapped up state tournament berth.

Both Bristol Central soccer teams find out who they will play in the state tournament when the CIAC releases the pairings on Friday.
