CIAC TOURNEYS: Local trio in Top 10 of Class L girls volleyball

The CIAC state tournament pairings have been released, and there are plenty of local teams ready to take part.

Here’s where the teams are seeded and when they are playing their first games (all games are first round unless noted):

Girls volleyball

Class L

There are three local teams within the top 10 seeds of this bracket: No. 4 Bristol Eastern (15-2 regular season); No. 6 Kennedy (17-3); and No. 9 Bristol Central (16-3). Of the three local teams, the Rams don’t have a first round bye. Bristol Central hosts No. 24 Sacred Heart Academy (9-11) on Monday at 6 p.m.

Bristol Eastern has a first round bye and awaits the winner of No. 13 Farmington (13-5) and No. 20 Hartford Public (12-8). That second round match is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bristol Eastern High School.

First-time NVL Tournament champion Kennedy also has a first round bye and will play the winner of No. 11 North Haven (14-4) and No. 22 Daniel Hand (10-10). That second round match is slated for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Kennedy High School.

The top seed is Woodstock Academy (18-0).

Class S

St. Paul (16-4) is the No. 5 seed and will host No. 28 University (8-11) on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in a first round match. No. 26 Holy Cross (9-11) travels to No. 7 Bolton (14-6) on Monday for a 6 p.m. match. SMSA (19-1) is the top seed.

Class M

Kaynor Tech (10-10) is the No. 21 seed and heads to No. 12 Woodland (14-5) on Monday for a 6 p.m. match. No. 25 Wolcott (8-11) is going to Trumbull to play No. 8 St. Joseph (15-4) on Monday at 3:30 p.m. The top seed is Seymour (18-0).

Boys soccer

Class L

There are four local teams in the bracket: Crosby, Bristol Eastern, Bristol Central and Kennedy. No. 14 Crosby (9-5-2) hosts No. 19 North Haven (8-6-2) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. No. 16 Bristol Eastern (8-5-3) will play No. 17 Maloney (7-4-5) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. No. 22 Bristol Central (6-6-4) travels to No. 11 Ellis Tech (10-5-1) on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. game. No. 23 Kennedy (7-7-1) goes to No. 10 Hartford Public (10-3-3) on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. contest. The top seed is Wilcox Tech (15-0-1).

Class S

Seventh-seeded St. Paul (10-3-3) will face No. 26 Coventry (5-8-3) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. No. 13 Holy Cross (8-4-4) will host No. 20 SMSA (8-8) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Lyman Memorial is the top seed.

Class M

Wolcott (6-8-1) is the No. 31 seed and will face No. 2 Granby (15-1) on the road on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The top seed is Ellington (16-0).

Girls soccer

Class L

Three local teams will play in this bracket. No. 18 Bristol Eastern (7-6-3) will play on the road at No. 15 Lauralton Hall (10-6) on Monday at 2 p.m. No. 20 Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech (8-8) will be on the road against No. 13 Daniel Hand (9-3-4) on Monday at 5 p.m. No. 25 Bristol Central (6-9-1) goes to Bullard Havens Tech (10-3-1) on Monday for a 2 p.m. game.

Class M

The NVL Tournament runner-up Wolcott (11-1-4) is the No. 7 seed and will host No. 26 Valley Regional (6-8-2) on Monday at 5 p.m. No. 15 Holy Cross (9-3-4) will play at home against No. 18 Berlin (9-6-1) on Monday at 2 p.m.
