CROSS COUNTRY: Bristol Central boys take third at Stratton Brook

The Bristol Central boys cross country team finished third in the large schools varsity race of the 38th Stratton Brook Invitational this past Saturday at Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury.

Junior Mark Petrosky paced the Rams with a solid run and a team-best fifth place finish in a time of 17:25. Sophomore Nate Deangelo was the second Central runner across the finish line, placing ninth in 17:44. Deangelo was followed by senior Pacifico Flores in 12th, junior Ben Stafford in 14th, and senior Devin Flores in 16th.

Glastonbury junior Jacob Smith won the large schools varsity race in 16:50. Staples claimed second, third and fourth place on the way to a team victory in the large schools varsity race.

The Bristol Central girls finished fifth in the large schools varsity race. Senior Alexandra Sirko was the top Ram runner with a 13th place finish overall in a time of 23:11. The run counted as a 12th place finish for Central’s team scoring because Canton ran in the large schools varsity race, but not as a team.

Sirko was followed by sophomore Natalia Popielarz (23rd overall, 21st team), sophomore Isabella Crandall (25th, 23rd), sophomore Marisa Heller (34th, 32nd) and senior Kiara Suazo (42nd, 38th).
