Wolcott senior Raven Cody entered Monday night’s NVL game needing just three points to reach 1,000 for her career.
Raven Cody records her 1,000th career point with first quarter buzzer-beater
Cody achieved the milestone in style, draining a buzzer-beating 3-pointer after crossing halfcourt at the end of the first quarter. The basket set off loud cheers from the home crowd inside the John H. Morris Gymnasium. Students waved white signs with the number 1,000 typed in black.
Cody celebrated with teammates, received a hug from opposing head coach Mike Fritch of Torrington, then gathered at midcourt with Wolcott mentor Marty Dituccio. Dituccio presented Cody with a basketball commemorating her 1,000th career point.
“Finally hit 1000!” Cody wrote on Twitter, accompanied by a video from a classmate of her halfcourt shot. “Thanks to everyone who came out and supported but a special shoutout to my parents, teammates & coaches! Couldn’t do it without you guys.”
Cody was far from done with dramatic shots. At the end of the third quarter, Cody hit another shot from around halfcourt at the buzzer. Those baskets turned out to be big in a game Wolcott won by only three points, 54-51.
Cody ended the night with 23 points, giving her 1,020 for her career.
