The Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central girls basketball teams combined for a terrific game on Monday night, won by the host Lancers, 52-51, over the Rams in the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium.
Here are some scoring totals from that game:
EASTERN – Autumn Udoh had a big night with 22 points, scoring under the basket while also displaying deadly accuracy from the mid-range. Vanessa Drury added 15 points and had the assist on Udoh’s go-ahead basket in the final minute. Leah Roy and Amanda Noel scored five points apiece.
CENTRAL – Nicole Riemer scored a team-high 21 points in defeat. The Rams didn’t have another player in double figures, but there was good balance between Leilani Jackson-Mills (8 points), Arianna Rivera (8) and Julia Pikiell (6).
NVL girls tournament update
Holy Cross and St. Paul secured byes through the play-in round in the expanded league postseason, which includes all teams who qualified for the CIAC state tournament. Girls basketball teams have to win 30% of their games to qualify for states. WCA (11-8) will be either the No. 8 seed or No. 9 seed. Kennedy (10-9 overall) and Wolcott (7-12) will be playing in the NVL postseason, and Wilby (5-14) can earn a spot in both tournaments with a win over Crosby on Wednesday.
The play-in games are slated for Thursday. The quarterfinal round games are scheduled for Saturday at Naugatuck High School. The times are as follows: 11 a.m. (5/12 winner vs 4-seed); 12:45 p.m. (6/11 winner vs. 3-seed); 2:30 p.m. (7/10 winner vs. 2-seed); 4:15 p.m. (8/9 winner vs. 1-seed).
CTC girls tournament update
Kaynor Tech (15-4 overall, 9-2 CTC) will have a high seed in the league’s postseason when it is played. The top eight teams in the CTC play in the league tournament.
